Today’s Groupon: for $99, you get a full-day basic photography workshop (http://gr.pn/t6yMOY) from Fotoscool (a $280 value). Full-day workshops are held in the Park Room at the BRCA Community Centre and run from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break. Choose from the following dates:
- Saturday, January 14, Saturday, January 21, or Saturday, February 4
- Saturday, February 11, or Saturday, February 25
- Saturday, March 3, or Saturday, March 10
Fotoscool’s internationally acclaimed photographers and cinematographers guide shutterbugs through the basics of photography during full-day workshops held in the BRCA Community Centre’s modern, spacious interior. Amid light from hanging lamps and floor-to-ceiling windows, up to 80 students get introduced to digital SLR photography through expert instruction, interactive exercises, and bonding human-camera trust falls. While flashes are optional, attendees should bring an SLR camera with a midrange lens, two memory cards, and two batteries. Learn to eschew the camera’s auto-programmed modes for manual settings that facilitate personalized picture-taking without the hassle of monogramming each pixel. A midsession lunch break serves as a respite for weary trigger fingers, and pupils can take a breath of fresh winter breezes during strolls through the Bridgeland Riverside Community Association’s verdant outdoor pathways along the Bow River.
